Apparence Fragmentée
Nous voici dans une chambre, pleine d’images et de mots, de couleurs et de textures. Ensemble ils créent un espace délibérément construit où pouvoir agir ne dépend d’aucune identification « naturelle » mais d’un désir de coalitions, d’affinités ou de parenté politique (Haraway, 1985). Ici, l’apparence est à l’écart du monde et se fragmente en mille morceaux : comme si tout ce qui la formait pouvait enfin se désolidariser pour exister individuellement. Des émotions se matérialisent tandis que des objets prennent vie et dialoguent, se contredisent et se complètent. Les affinités s’entremêlent à l’héritage pour faire advenir une infinité d’apparences. J’ai travaillé l’enduit pour isoler et protéger, le plissé à la main pour traduire les émotions, la popeline comme toile vierge ou rayée et contorsionnée, et le tailoring pour amplifier. Des patronnages organiques enfin réunissent le corps et les entités qui l’entourent, entre le palpable et l’émotionnel.
Here we are in a room filled with images and words, colors and textures. Together they create a deliberately constructed space where agency depends not on any “natural” identity but on a desire for coalition, affinity, or political kinship (Haraway, 1985). Here, appearance drifts away from the world and fragments into a thousand pieces, as if everything forming it could finally exist separately. Emotions materialize, objects come to life, converse, contradict, and complete one another. Affinities intertwine with heritage to bring forth infinite appearances. I worked with coating to isolate and protect, hand-pleating to express emotion, poplin as a blank or striped and twisted canvas, and tailoring to amplify. Organic patternmaking reunites the body and the entities around it, between the tangible and the emotional.
