OVERWORKED: bags to share the load
OVERWORKED: bags to share the load aborde des formes de travail précaires, sous-rémunérées et souvent invisibilisées, principalement exercées par des femmes, notamment immigrées ou issues de minorités. La surcharge devient le principe de la collection de sacs : le poids se partage, se déplace et se redistribue entre les corps et les objets.
En reliant la fonction du sac à la question du travail, Catarina Santos Moreira transforme l’acte de porter en image d’une charge collective. Le projet invite à réfléchir à la répartition du travail, à ses effets intimes et à la reconnaissance de gestes essentiels encore trop souvent peu visibles.
OVERWORKED: bags to share the load addresses forms of labour that are precarious, underpaid and often made invisible, largely carried out by women, particularly immigrant women or members of minority communities. Overload becomes the principle of the bag collection: weight is shared, displaced and redistributed between bodies and objects.
By connecting the function of the bag to the question of labour, Catarina Santos Moreira turns the act of carrying into an image
of collective burden. The project invites reflection on how work is distributed, its intimate effects and the recognition of essential forms of labour that too often remain unseen.
