Forget Me Knot
Forte d’un parcours en design textile et design de bijou, j’ai développé dans cette collection une matière issue de la rencontre entre le métal et le cuir. Le fil de laiton gainé entre deux peaux donne à voir sa structure. Entre rayures et détails de bouclerie, il pointe sans pour autant remonter à la surface et briller. Les propriétés du métal permettent une certaine malléabilité et tenue du cuir. Forget Me Knot a pour point de départ l’anse. D’abord liée au sac par des nœuds, elle s’étend pour devenir le sac en lui-même. Nouée autour du corps comme enlacée cette « anse-sac » reprend l’idée de la banane. À la taille, aux épaules, au poignet ou bien fixée à un autre sac, elle s’adapte aux mouvements, aux déplacements. Durant le confinement, coupée des ressources habituelles j’ai dû repenser la manière de monter un sac, sans couture. La collection a pris un autre tournant : le nouage du sac autour du corps a changé d’échelle. Désormais, des petits nœuds relient chaque paroi du sac aux autres, faisant office de couture et d’éléments décoratifs. Le sac est un compagnon au quotidien. Précieux, il contient nos affaires intimes. Dans cette collection, j’ai essayé de traduire à travers le choix des formes, de la matière et des couleurs l’attachement que l’on peut avoir à cet objet. Le nœud en est la traduction symbolique.
Building on my background in textile design and jewelry design, I developed my collection by combining metal and leather. The brass wires trapped between two pieces of leather are made to be discernible, to look like stripes or buckle details. They never quite make it through the leather though. “Forget Me Knot” took handles and straps as its starting point. First tied to the bag with knots, the bags’ handles expand to become the bag itself. Tied around the body as if enveloping it, this “bag handle” draws on the idea of the waist bag. Tied at the waist, the wrist, worn as a shoulder bag or attached to another bag, it is adaptable. During lockdown, cut off from access to certain materials and the school facilities, I had to think of a way to assemble the bags. The knots changed scale. I used small knots to connect the sides of the bags together. The knots replaced the seams and became elements. The bag is a daily companion. It is precious because it contains our belongings. In this collection I tried to express through the choice of shapes, materials and colors our relationships to bags, our attachment for them literally transcribed here through the knot.
