“Fabrique d’une Carnation Post-Humaine” is a design project that showcases an experimental approach to the construction of a garment and the identity that results from it. The collection is developed through compositions of existing elements and their experimentation using deconstruction, fragmentation and reconstruction, offering new systems of assembly. The impetus for this collection comes from a hypothesised dystopian world in which humans are dehumanised by bio- and nanotechnology. The main idea behind this collection is to put the focus back on the “post-human” through the prism of clothing. It addresses the possibility of a standardised body that acquires a new identity and develops “post-vulnerabilities” through glitches, computer bugs and errors that are like new scars on non-organic flesh. The pieces in this collection oscillate between art and fashion, between armour and installation. They offer an experimental approach to materials, creating a third type of construction that varies between sewing and draping techniques and offers a new fit. The pieces are constructed in a space that first negates the body but grafts it on later. Like a suit of armour for some, they are incorporated into the body to reveal it as the new costume of an individuality that has become post-human.
