« Take me to court, them chains don’t hold » relate l’une de mes fantasmagories. Descendantes de Lilith, les femmes que j’habille expulsent la figure d’Ève, soumise aux injonctions du patriarcat, de l’histoire de leurs origines. Iconographies des monstres, démons féminins et sorcières, ces figures perçues comme négatives m’inspirent. Je les réinterprète pour en faire une force émancipatrice des femmes. Je me sens désabusée par le mythe de la femme domestiquée qui attend sagement son prince charmant à la maison. Si ça lui chante, il peut attendre, lui, à la maison. Moi, j’invoque Médée, je rassemble mes femmes et nous nous envolons pour rejoindre nos appartements sur Uranus.
My collection conjures a mythological world in which the women I dress, descendants of Lilith, have purged the figure of Eve, written into existence by patriarchy, from the history of their origins. I took the iconography that surrounds monsters, witches, and female devils — all supposedly negative forces — as inspirations. I recast these characters as liberatory figures. I am disillusioned by the enduring cult of the “tamed” woman quietly waiting at home for her prince charming to save her. If he wants to, he, the prince, can wait at home for her. I, on the other hand, call upon Medea, gather my sisters and fly towards our apartment on Uranus.
